It's the Monday after a big weekend and today we are just starting to get back into the swing of things. We have spent the last weekend as we do every spring opening the doors of Libby Maple to our loyal customers, friends, and family.
Last year we had terrible weather on the weekend of Maine Maple, but this year, nothing was stopping folks from venturing out.
We started our weekend by hosting Don Toothaker and his photography group as a warmup to our weekend. It always helps to get started with a small group as we gear up for a busy weekend. As the day progressed we got more and more busy and finished out the day just about sold out. We went home and baked another 15 batches of our delicious Maple Nut Crunch and several more batches of our Maple Pecans and Cashews. We were also able to pack up more syrup to bring to the sugar shack in the morning.
Sunday came early and we were up and out of the house ready to start the day. Jon and Jay began collecting sap at 7:30 am to get ready to start the evaporator. By 9:15 our first group arrived. The day flew by and before we knew it the day had come to a close. At times it seemed as though we were bursting at the seams with visitors. The sugar shack which normally has so much room felt tight and cramped. People flowed in and out and the traffic was just steady all day.
We sat around for a bit after the last guests left and all agreed that it was one of our most successful weekends in recent memory. We met so many great people from all over the state. We had many of our local customers stop in as well as cousins and family friends. We truly feel blessed to be able to host this event every year.
Without the help of our family and friends it wouldn't be possible to pull this off. Thanks to the weekend volunteers as well as the crew that helps prior to the event.
